The Guadalajara Reporter (October 6-12, 2018) states that the initiative would see establishments fined starting 2020 if they fail to provide biodegradable plastic bags, containers, straws and cups to their customers.
A popular restaurant in Ajijic, Adelita already follows this rule. We talked with one of the owners and she suggested that we could bring our own take home container which would further save the landfill. A good idea. The straws that they use are “BIOFASE”made from the pit of the avocado fruit.
In Guadalajara we had lunch at The Olive Garden in Providencia and were give an “ecoshell” straw, made from plants.
Our local Organic market in Ajijic has given notice that the vendors will no longer use plastic bags. One vendor sells bags made from potatoes and other vendors are using them.
Those who have never visited this area would be surprised that what many consider a third world country is ahead of the pack in not only this initiative, but many other ways also.
My next blog is on the Women’s Clinic at CHOPO in Guadlajara. So lovely and calming while one has tests. Stay tuned. Linda
